Dental Van

Lourdes Dental Care utilizes its mobile dental van to service school districts throughout the Southern Tier.  The mobile dental program visits schools and provides oral health exams and education about oral hygiene and overall oral health.  This mobile dental van is only one of two in the state.  Thanks to the Mee Foundation and the Decker Foundation, the children in the Southern Tier really have something to smile about!

Lourdes Childcare Center

The Solemn Blessing and Dedication of the Lourdes Childcare Center took place in January of 2020.  The Center had recently moved to its current location, the former St. Thomas Aquinas School on Binghamton’s West Side.  As part of a $900,000 project, the Lourdes Hospital Foundation funded the renovation and modernization of the building to transform the former school into a state-of-the-art childcare center. The Center is NYS certified and is a registered Office of Child and Family Services facility.

Just as the right building is important, even more so are the right people.    Faculty and Staff at the Lourdes Childcare Center, are deeply committed and passionate. They understand the importance of making sure that each child in their care receives the very best.  Studies have shown that children who take part in early childhood education programs have improved social skills and do better in school.  They also learn life skills that will stay with these children forever.

The Center can accommodate 208 children.

The Center is open Monday through Friday 6:30 AM until 6:00 PM.  Offerings include Before & After School care as well as Snow Day and Vacation Day care.

The Lourdes Childcare Center has become an essential provider of early childhood education in the Binghamton area. Thanks to the Lourdes Hospital Foundation, a caring staff, large well-lit classrooms, a commercial kitchen, and a full-sized gymnasium for making the Lourdes Childcare Center an ideal place to learn and grow!

Camp Hope for Kids

Camp Hope for Kids is designed for children and teens who have experienced the loss of an immediate family member.  This 3- day camp includes Healing circles – a safe time for campers to share and process their feelings about their loss.  Along with Healing Circles, campers will experience all that a traditional summer camp has to offer like swimming, arts and crafts, meals together and lots of laughter. Most of all, they will learn coping skills to help them navigate moving forward after their loss.

Accomplishments

Center of Excellence for Spine Care

Lourdes Hospital made great strides to becoming a Center of Excellence for Spine Care when it acquired an O-Arm and Stealth Station imaging system.  The system is installed in the Lourdes Hospital Operating Room and has been in use since Spring of 2022. The Lourdes Hospital Foundation provided funding, along with two grants of $100,000 each from both the Dr. G. Clifford & Florence B. Decker Foundation and the George A. & Margaret Mee Charitable Foundation.

Lourdes Cancer care initiative

In the fall of 2014, the Lourdes Hospital Foundation Board agreed to fund the Lourdes Cancer Care Initiative project as set forth by the Hospital. This endeavor will greatly enhance cancer care, early detection and treatment for our patients and the people whom we serve. Unfortunately, cancer claims the lives of many all too often in our community, but with this initiative, Lourdes will strive for better outcomes and earlier detection which in turn will lead to earlier treatment and lives being saved.

Board Member Miles Ondecko Underwrites Much Needed Expansion Project!

The Lourdes Center for Oral Health was established in 2005 in response to a demonstrated community need. The Clinic has served primarily children and youth for the past nine years and has expanded to include a school based program and Dental Van that serves rural communities. It has now been decided to expand upon this great work and thus to accept adults who lack access to dental care because they are uninsured or under-insured, or have Medicaid as a source of payment and cannot find a dentist that will accept it. Lourdes plan is to double the capacity of these services through renovation of existing space that has been occupied by the counselors for the PACT Program. A business plan has been completed for this project and proposed renovations will cost $500,000. Lourdes Hospital Foundation Board Member, Miles Ondecko, has committed to generously underwrite the total cost of $500,000 to move forward with these renovations. Because of the generosity of Miles, the Lourdes Oral Health Program will be able to serve an even larger population of those in need. Thank you Miles!
